Frequently Asked Questions
Here you will find answers to some commonly asked questions about Gloria Dei Lutheran School.
1. Are your students required to wear uniforms?
No, our students do not wear uniforms at the present time. Students may dress in a casual manner and should avoid wearing any questionable or offensive attire.
2. What hours of the day is school in session?
School is in session Mondays through Fridays from 8:30AM until 3:30PM unless highlighted by the school calendar.
3. Do families have to be members of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church to attend its school?
Certainly not. Gloria Dei Lutheran School exists as an extension of the church. Many members of Gloria Dei Church take advantage of its school; however, the excellent Christian education can be taken advantage of by members of the community as well.
Parents of children who are not members of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church enroll in our Bible Information Class, which teaches them the basic Bible teachings their child will learn while attending our school. They take the class simply to get a better understanding of our Biblical teachings and there is no pressure to become members of our congregation.
4. What degrees do your teachers hold? Are they credentialed teachers in the state of California?
Our teachers hold Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education degrees from Martin Luther College of New Ulm, Minnesota, which is the teacher and pastor training school of our church denomination(Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod). Martin Luther College is an accredited institution of higher learning. Our teachers also take opportunities for professional development in the form of workshops, seminars, or advanced degree study.
At the present time our teachers are credentialed by the state of California, although private school teachers are not required to hold a California credential. Because our church body has elementary and high schools in many of our United States, our teachers may also hold teaching licenses for other states that are similar to a California credential.
5. Is extended care available at your school?
Yes. We do understand the busy schedules of our parents. For this reason, students may be dropped off at school and entered into the extended care program as early as 7:30AM on regular school days. Students may also remain in the after school program until 6:00PM. A schedule of the fees can be found on the ADMISSIONS page.
